Homework is regarded by the Government as a key element of a child's learning (even in the primary years) and it is therefore something that we will set on a regular basis at Great Sampford.
However, in order for it to have the desired impact - which is to help move the children's learning and understanding and independence forward, it is vital that it is well supported at home and completed on a regular basis. All weekly homework tasks will be set on a Friday.
The homework requirements and timetable for each class are detailed separately (and can be found in the files below) although they all share the same key elements:
-Reading practise - we can not stress how important this is for all of the children regardless of their ability or confidence with the written word.
-Spelling practise - It is essential that children learn to spell the high frequency words that they use in everyday life as well as the rules that commonly apply.
-Number based activities - these activities focus on the learning of number bonds and times-tables. Instant recall of these facts is essential to aid confidence and computational speed.
-Research based activities - Over a half-term period a variety of different tasks will be set. The children will need to pick one of these only to complete for a presentation to the rest of the class.
